Printing / Plotting

You can print drawings on a printer or plotter. You can also print drawings to file.

To print drawings on a printer or plotter, or to print drawings to file:

  1. Click File > Print (or type Print).
  2. If the dialog box contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across the bottom, click the disclosure triangle beside Printer.
  3. The most frequently used print options appear above the print options menu, the pop-up menu within a separator bar. Advanced options are below this options menu.
  4. In Printer, select an output device available on your system. You can also add a printer and set system preferences for the printers you use.
  5. In Presets, you can save a combination of printer settings that you frequently use when printing. To apply a "preset", select an option:
  6. In Copies, set the number of copies to print.
  7. In Paper size, select a size from the international standardized paper size formats and printer-specific paper formats.
  8. For Orientation, select portrait or landscape format.

  To choose advanced print options, select items from the print options menu, the pop-up menu within a separator bar. Some items apply only to the selected printer (for example Layout, Color Matching, Paper Handling, Paper Feed, Cover Page, and Scheduler). For detailled information on printer specific options, check the documentation that came with your printer.

  1. On the print options menu, click Range to set the area to print:
  2. Select Print only within specified window to cut entities at the boundaries of the specified print range on the printout regardless of whether there is remaining space on the output sheet.
  3. On the print options menu, click Scale:
    1. Set the print scale:
      • Select Fit to paper size to automatically scale the specified print range so that it fills the paper area you select.
      • - or -
      • Select or define a Scale. If you choose User-defined, set the ratio between paper units (in Millimeters or Inches) to drawing units.
    2. Select or clear Scale LineWeight to print scale. This option is available only if a Sheet tab is active.
  4. On the print options menu, click Offset:
  5. On the print options menu, click Styles.
    1. Under Shaded views, in Print style, set a shade mode to apply when printing (As displayed on Sheet, Hidden, Rendered, or Wireframe).
    2. Under Print style table:
      • Select a PrintStyle table.
      • Click New to create a new PrintStyle.
      • Click Edit to modify the selected PrintStyle.
  6. On the print options menu, click Options to set the following:
  7. On the print options menu, click Print configurations to restore the settings for the printer, paper size, print scale and range, orientation, and offset saved in a print configuration.
  8. On the print options menu, click Sheet selection to select all of the Sheets you want to print. Click Select Sheets to specify the Sheets to print and the print configurations to use.
  9. Note: This option is available only if a Sheet tab is active.
  10. Click PDF to open the PDF pop-up menu. The menu options include previewing the printout, saving the output as PDF, PostScript, or iPhoto file, and sending the output as fax or mail. For more information, click ? beside PDF.
  11. Click Print to print the document.
