Creating Vertical Linear Dimensions

The VerticalDimension command lets you create vertical linear dimensions. The vertical distance between the defining points is measured and the dimension line is parallel to the Y-axis.

To create vertical linear dimensions:

  1. Type VerticalDimension at the command prompt.
  2. In the graphics area, select the first and second extension line origins.

    Press Enter, then select an entity to dimension. You can select Lines, PolyLines, Circles, and Arcs. The start and end points of linear entities, or the diameter of circular entities are measured.
  3. Click to place the dimension lines or specify an option:

    Angle, Note, and Text: See Editing and Formatting Dimension Text.

    The measurement is placed as dimension text based on the definitions of the current DimensionStyle.

  To dimension the real length of lines not parallel to the X- or Y-axis of the coordinate system, use the ParallelDimension command.
